About
Grassroots in Nebraska is a Lincoln, Nebraska, based group, founded in March of 2009. While we began as a Tea Party group, we have recognized that Tea Party rallies are solely a means by which concerned citizens gather together. These gatherings have no meaning if they do not result in action.
The mission of our group is as follows:
Our mission is to promote a return to Constitutional government as originally intended by the Founders, as the most effective avenue to encourage public policy that promotes personal responsibility, individual liberty, limited government, and free markets.
In keeping with the principles upon which the United States was founded, we think this mission is best fulfilled through efforts from the bottom up, not the top-down. Therefore, we offer support to all in the state of Nebraska who wish to collaborate openly with others to meet our stated mission. We will not endorse or support any group whose agenda and/or use of funds is not clearly stated, or is in conflict with our mission.
In addition to our stated mission we have the stated focus of “ONE THING”. That ONE THING is Liberty.
Positions on policy are derived from the Constitution, as originally intended and basis for action means we protect our ONE THING.
To be effective, we have determined to become only as organized as minimally necessary to be effective, which is a mirror of the idea of a limited government. We do not raise funds on an ongoing basis – in the few cases where expenses occur, we self-fund. While we network with other like-minded groups around the country, we are not officially associated with any national entity.
We believe…
- Our problems did not start yesterday (or with the election of 2008)
- Both major political parties are responsible for the move away from Constitutional governance
- Local actions are the most effective
While Shelli Dawdy is the founder of this group there is a valuable core of members who serve in an advisory capacity and without whom effective action could not be taken and important decisions could not be made.
