My Conversation with Sen. Pete Pirsch: Amendment No. 2

As we reported in our earlier article about Proposed Amendment No. 2, I sent an email to the measure’s sponsor, Senator Pete Pirsch, pointing out some legal concerns about the language chosen for his amendment. Readers can read in detail about those concerns in that prior article, so I’ll give the bottom-line version here: a […]

NE Amendment No. 2: So Country Folks Can Survive

Nebraska Proposed Amendment No. 2’s purported purpose is to ensure the preservation of Nebraskans’ rights to hunt, fish, and harvest wildlife. Sponsoring State Senator Pete Pirsch, in responding to questions from skeptical colleagues in the Nebraska Unicameral during floor debate and in interviews with local media, has explained that the measure is needed due to potential future threats to these rights from “deep-pocketed, fringe organizations” which have been increasing their efforts to limit such activities in other states. Read full articleNE Amendment No. 2: So Country Folks Can Survive

Fortenberry Needs To Hear From YOU: Townhall Schedule (Lincoln TONIGHT)

Nebraska’s First District Congressman Jeff Fortenberry is convening townhall meetings during Congress’ August recess. We at GiN have long believed that Mr. Fortenberry should be replaced with an actual limited government representative because the evidence shows that he cannot be described as such. As Linda wrote in a September 2011 article, Fortenberry… “…spends money like […]

Arbor Day’s J. Sterling Morton: We Don’t Know Him

Some men, long dead, are famous for what they DIDN’T do. For example, George Washington almost certainly didn’t chop down a cherry tree and later confess because, as he is reputed to have told his father, he “could not tell a lie.”1 This myth was popularized in a fable written by Mason Locke Weems about […]

Pumping Up Politics, Prices: Transcanada Keystone XL Pipeline

From my article of November 2, 2011, “TransCanada Trojan Horse: Keystone XL Pipeline Will Increase Gas Prices“: “The TransCanada Keystone Xl pipeline project will result in increased gas and diesel prices in 15 Midwestern States – to the detriment of those states’ citizens and economies.” While I continue to ponder the question… How much more […]
