Proponents of Collective Bargaining Reform to Counter-Rally Saturday at the State Capitol
WHAT: Counter-Rally to MoveOn.org “Saving the American Dream Rally”
WHEN: SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 26 - NOON WHERE: North Steps of the State Capitol, Lincoln
Grassroots in Nebraska (GiN) is helping out friends at Omaha 912, who called upon their membership to gather for a counter-rally at the State Capitol on Saturday. Unfortunately, the organizer of the counter-rally had a death in the family and requested assistance, which GiN is pleased to provide.
Thanks to the Capitol Commission, GiN has secured the use of the base of the North Steps at NOON. Nebraskans who support serious reform of the State’s system of collective bargaining for public employees are encouraged to attend. GiN’s purpose for this rally is to stand up for Nebraska taxpayers who are not being adequately represented at the bargaining table but who are held responsible for paying the bills.
Shelli Dawdy, GiN’s founder stated, “We decided to step forward and organize this counter-rally because we’re hearing from people across the State that they see what is going in on Wisconsin and Ohio, and they are starting to understand that this is a universal problem. We’re at a tipping point, where it’s time to drastically cut spending by government at all levels. More and more Nebraskans are realizing our budget is in as much trouble as many other states. When they learn that 17% of the State’s work force is employed by state and local government, they know instinctively that is unsustainable.”
A number of grassroots groups in the Omaha and Lincoln areas, in addition to GiN and Omaha 912, have notified their membership about the counter-rally on Saturday, including a Lincoln watchdog group, Conservatives Tomorrow, Educators of Liberty, OathKeepers, and others.
About Grassroots in Nebraska (GiN)
GiN was founded in Lincoln, Nebraska, with its first tea party held in the city on March 15, 2009, at Senator Ben Nelson’s Lincoln office. The group organized April 11, July 4, and December 22 Tea Parties in 2009, and a March 21 “Kill the Bill” rally and April 15 Tax Day Tea Party in 2010. In addition to organizing tea parties, GiN has worked to affect the legislative process through research, information dissemination and direct advocacy at the Unicameral, including successfully organizing testimony and public turnout for LR292, the Nebraska Sovereignty Resolution in 2010. GiN’s activities have been covered by Nebraska media including KLKN, KOLN, and KHAS TV, KLIN’s Jack & John in the Morning, KHAS Sunrise 360, Lincoln Journal Star, Omaha World-Herald and other newspapers the State.
