Where Does Nebraska Get Its Money?

I don’t know about anyone else, but I am rather shocked to discover that Nebraska receives so very much of its budget from the Federal government. Silly, silly me. So much for state sovereignty…

Seems rather curious that our Governor has been complaining about the acceptance of federal funds recently…

WOW! NE gets almost 40% of its budget from the Feds?!

This is a multi-year chart:

The bar graph may be difficult to see clearly. Note that the bottom part of each bar is labeled “State Taxes”, the top “Cash and Federal Funds”. It would be more illuminating if "cash" and "federal funds" were separated.

The source of this information is the State Treasurer’s website "Nebraska Spending". These two graphics came from THIS page.

We've been working on a continuing series on Nebraska state spending:

2) NE Budget: Senators Hope Feds Will Bail Us Out

and more to come...
